Equity Market Update for - March 10, 2010

Equity Markets For The Day

      The Sensex ended the day with a gain of 45.79 points, or 0.27% at 17,098.33. The broad-based NSE Nifty climbed 14.75 points, or 0.29% at 5116.25.

. T  Top Gainers today were Hero Honda(2.9%),ACC(2.2%),Reliance(1.8%),JP Associates(1.8%),HDFC(1.5%).

      Top Losers today were NTPC(1.4%),Maruti(1.3%),Airtel(1.1%),Infosys(0.9%),Sun Pharma(0.8%)

      Market breadth was negative with 1,135 advances against 1,690 declines.

G-sec market comments: After touching 8% level yesterday, G-sec bonds yields improved today since buying emerged at the higher levels.  10 year G-Sec closed  the day lower at 7.98% (previous: 7.96%).

In T-bill auction, 91 day T-bill (Rs. 5000 cr) and 364 day T-bill (Rs. 3000 cr) saw higher cut-off of 4.34% (previous: 4.22%) and 5.12% (previous: 5.01%) respectively.

Liquidity continued to be comfortable, with overnight call money market rates  in the range of 3.30%-4.00%. The net LAF balance improved and were at Rs.83,605 cr (Previous: Rs.80,100 cr).

Markets are expected to take cues from industrial production numbers, monthly inflation numbers, borrowing calendar, global cues, domestic liquidity position and policy-makers statements and actions.
